Xenoestrogens: what they are and why we need to avoid them

In this issue of CosBeauty, Terri discusses the impact of oestrogen mimicking ingredients on our health

“Medical research has linked xenoestrogens with a range of serious human health concerns and can influence the following functions: immunity; bone development; blood clotting; reproduction; reproductive development in babies and adolescents of both sexes; development of organs such as the uterus and the breasts.”

Animal testing alternatives in the cosmetic industry

Published in CosSurgery March 2017, written by Terri Vinson

Terri looks at the innovative new methods for testing the safety of cosmetics.

“Animal testing has sadly been conducted by cosmetic companies for decades. Companies find it more convenient to repeat the tests that have always been performed rather than adopt newer and more reliable tests.

Alternatives to animal testing are not only more ethical, they are simply better. For example, animal tests performed on pregnant rats to predict the effect of chemicals on unborn foetuses could only detect 60% of dangerous substances, a fairly unreliable statistic. However, stem cell culture tests that caused zero harm to the rats were able to detect an accurate 100% of dangerous substances.”

Beauticate

Move Over SPF. Your Skin Now Needs Environmental Protection.

Sigourney Cantelo of Beauticate discusses the importance of environmental protection in this new article.

“For years we’ve waged a war against sun – defending ourselves from UV light with the mighty mantra of ‘slip, slop, slap’ and sunscreens. However, new research is emerging on the dangers of other, more insidious skin aggressors – such as infrared light and pollution – that until now, we had limited ways of protecting our skin against.

Today Australian cosmeceutical company, Synergie Skin, launched Enviroshield, a daily anti-pollutant spritz to protect against the harmful effects of airborne pollutants and Infrared damage.

The launch has thrown light on a new category of skincare – environmental protection – an area that has previously been limited to topical antioxidants and sunscreen, and although it’s still early days in terms of our knowledge in the area, we expect to see more brands follow suit. ”

The Eyes Have It

Published in Professional Beauty Oct 2016, written by Terri Vinson

In this article, Terri explains how to keep your eyes, and your clients’ eyes, looking bright and beautiful for as long as possible.

“Dark circles can be alleviated by strengthening the walls of the blood vessels with retinol (vitamin A), l-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and a new peptide ingredient called acetyl tetrapeptide-1 (aka Eyeseryl). This ingredient simultaneously reduces the appearance of dark circles and eye-bags by inhibiting loss of elasticity and cross linking of collagen. Acetyl tetrapeptide-1 also helps prevent fluid accumulation by inhibiting ‘leaky’ blood vessels which empty dark haemoglobin close to the eye surface skin.”

A-Z of Cosmeceutical Skincare

Lifestyle source, SHE’SAID’ asks Terri to break down the A-Z  of cosmeceutical skincare.

“The most important skin care product of all is sunscreen – of the high SPF, broad-spectrum variety used every day, rain or shine, all year round. Luckily we live in an age where these abound, are eminently affordable and can come combined as a moisturiser, foundation, BB or CC cream. Apply over face, neck and “dec” (decolletage). Sunscreen is your primary insurance policy against environmental ageing”

The Beauty Issue: the perfect skin care routine

The inspiring Julie Lardner shares her advice to nailing the perfect skincare routine with Synergie Skin.

“I’ve been a fan of the Australian brand Synergie Skin for some time now and for a couple of excellent reasons. Synergie Skin is a true cosmeceutical brand. Many brands will claim the title, but very few will deliver. I can happily say without hesitation, Synergie Skin is and does what it says it will. With so many brands large and small vying for your attention it’s great to see a brand like Synergie Skin making their mark.”

“By all means buy the all-in-one moisturiser with and SPF rating but, if it’s not labelled as broad spectrum, then it may not be providing you with anything more than protection from UVB radiation which are the rays that burn your skin. The Adelaidian

The stylish duo from Aussie fashion blog, The Adelaidian,  switched up their skincare routine and tried Synergie Skin for a month. How did they go? Check out their review here…

“One month later, Mel’s skin is looking glowing and flawless, void of pimples, dry patches, red spots or any other kind of nasties. Perhaps the most surprising part about this trial was the time in which it took to actually make a difference; one week in and Mel was already looking fresh-faced and fabulous! Needless to say, the B-juvEnate moisturiser is definitely her new go-to skincare product… that stuff works some serious magic.”

“Kristen was a little skeptical before beginning her month of Synergie, as she had worked hard to develop a skincare routine she thought best suited her skin. However, after giving up her carefully selected products she was quite surprised at how well the Synergie products suited her skin. Within a week her skin was looking plump and glowing, and during the entire month not once did she develop any dry patches on her face. She’s actually started receiving random compliments from strangers on how nice her skin looks!”

Terri Vinson appointed international judge in the 2015 UK ‘MyFaceMyBody’ Awards

Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane London, Saturday 7th November

I was thrilled to be given the privilege of being invited as an international judge at the 2015 MyFaceMyBody UK awards held at the prestigious Intercontinental Hotel Park Lane in the heart of London.

Facilitated by media mogul and MyFaceMyBody founder Stephen Handisides, MyFaceMyBody celebrates clinic innovation and success within our constantly evolving and dynamic cosmetic medicine industry. Alongside leading experts in our industry, I judged a range award categories including “Best New Clinic” and “Best Customer Experience”.

To make this event even more exciting for the Aussie brands, Synergie’s UK distributor Helen Ritchie of ‘Mrs-Ritchie’, was nominated for Synergie SuperSerum as best new product of 2015.

20151108_002342

The MyFaceMyBody awards was the ultimate beauty extravaganza, and is considered an industry event not to be missed. The gala commenced with a red-carpet paparazzi photoshoot of guests and nominees. We were then treated to a burlesque show and a hip hop dance routine during our meal. The champagne kept flowing well into the early hours despite my flight out the next day!

It is always rewarding to see the aesthetic industry success recognised across the globe. This year, more consumers voted than ever before for their favourite clinics, products and services.

Giving back to this industry is of utmost importance to me and it was my honour to judge this year’s awards. It is essential to take time to recognise the work of cosmetic physicians, therapists, innovative ranges and clinics professionals for their efforts and contribution to the medical aesthetics and beauty sector.

A huge thank you must go to Stephen and his team at MyFaceMyBody.com for putting on a spectacular night and congratulations to all winners. See you again next year!

Paris Fashion Week

20150929_132623

Paris Fashion Week: the epitome of couture fashion, and the final stop of the global “Big 4” fashion weeks, following New York, London and Milan. A league of major fashion houses officially launch their Spring Summer (SS16) collections. This year, a total of 91 shows were scheduled in the calendar.

Innovative and upcoming Japanese denim brand, Aizomé1, took to the chic Rue De Richelieu to launch their first ready-to-wear ‘Envirodenim’ collection and Synergie Skin was invited to collaborate with the brand.

Aizomé1 have created an elegant denim line that marries classic European tailoring with fine Japanese denim. It is their vision to produce organic, ethically sourced denim, free from harsh chemical dyes. Synergie Skin was invited to sponsor the show on the strength of its “clean science” philosophy and boutique appeal. With Synergie Skin being 100% Australian made and owned, ethically formulated and certified cruelty free, this collaboration was a match made in heaven.

Founder and formulator of Synergie Skin, Terri Vinson flew to Paris last week to join Australia’s leading makeup artist Chantelle Baker and creative director Dan Ryan, for the show. Synergie Skin was chosen to be used on all models during the show to accent natural beauty and skin luminosity.

Fresh faced models showcased a look of glowing, healthy skin created by Synergie, using:

  • Vitamin B serum used to hydrate and prep model’s skin to build a flawless canvas, prior to makeup application
  • HyDrolock  a rich intense hydrator used as a moisturising base to create luminous sheen
  • Synergie Minerals® Luminiser a highlighting powder to accentuate radiance
  • HydroSpritz a vitamin-infused setting spray to finish the look of youthful, dewy skin
  • Lip Service  a complete cosmeceutical lip treatment that doubles as a natural light gloss
